Our popular Walking with Alpacas is in it's 10th year !

Our alpacas are all tucked up for their winter break

but will be back for walks next spring !

Our alpaca walks run from April to September

Come and meet our lovely alpacas, and we

guarantee that you will fall in love with them !

What Happens

Firstly you are introduced to the alpacas and learn about how to behave around them, as they can be quite shy at first. When everyone is happy (human & alpaca), we round up the boys who are trained for walks and you choose and catch your alpaca – always an interesting moment! Once the head collars are on we set off for our walk through the lovely meadows and woods of Burnt Fen.

Alpaca Amble - What to wear

Alpaca walking is more of an amble than a forced march as they like to browse for snacks along the way and sometimes have a good scratch in the hedges. Sturdy shoes and long trousers are best as some of the more adventurous alpacas do like to venture off the path in search of interesting morsels!

Tea and Carrots

At the end of the walk the alpacas and any cria (alpaca babies) will be delighted to join you for refreshments; tea & biscuits for us, carrots for them! Alpaca fibre is incredibly soft and strong. I am a spinner, weaver and felter, specialising in alpaca (no surprises there) and you are welcome to look around my studio to see how I work with our fleeces using traditional techniques.

The Great British Weather

Alpaca walking is of course an outdoors pursuit and living in this lovely country the weather can be somewhat damp at times, so please dress accordingly and fingers crossed for sunshine! If the weather is really bad we can try and rearrange but please be aware that at busy times this might not be an option. Alpacas tend to sulk in the rain - much as I do.... For this reason and other dull husbandry needs, our walking season runs from April to September.

Timings & Costs

Our alpacas only go out walking once a day as we want the walk to be as fun for them as it is for you. We go out at 10:30am, so you will need to arrive by 10:20am. Please allow 2 1/2 hours for your visit as the alpacas do love to snack as they walk! Our walks are £20 per person and we take out from 4 to 12 alpacas per walk. We have a minimum booking fee of £80 (a group of 4). Children are welcome however we have a guideline of 7 as a minimum age. Please talk to me before booking to discuss if the walk will be appropriate for your child.

We are happy to do walks during the week or at the weekend but weekends do get booked up quickly, so please get in touch if you have a particular date in mind.
