AMAZING ALPACAS !
Spinning and Weaving Course
A workshop that takes you from the source to the finished product.
Day One - Spinning
We work in the relaxed atmosphere of my fondly named 'Kurt the Yurt', a traditional Mongolian yurt situated next to our alpaca fields. You will learn to spin alpaca fibre to make your own yarn ready to weave into a journal cover on day two.
The alpacas will no doubt stroll by for some carrots, so you can enjoy meeting the source material up close and personal!
We always have around 35 to 40 alpacas at Burnt Fen so there is plenty of fleece to choose from.
Day Two - Weaving
You will work at Julia's lovely Textilia studio in the heart of Norwich’s historical textile area. Weave your yarn into a beautiful woven fabric and delve into Julia`s enviable stash of fabric to make a lined and reusable journal cover.
Both days run from 10am to 4pm and include all materials, a delicious homemade lunch and afternoon cake.
Cost: £190 per person

Student Comments
I cannot recommend this course highly enough! My friend and I attended, completely new to both spinning and weaving. We had the best time. The location on the first day is just lovely...relaxed, beautiful and really up close and personal with the stunning alpacas. The second day is spent in central Norwich in a wonderfully calming and very happy studio. Annie and Julia are kind, patient, and fun hosts with excellent knowledge and really good teaching skills. The course takes you from spinning your own alpaca wool (you will know exactly which darling one loaned you the fleece ;)) to making your very own woven book cover. The meals provided were delicious too.
Go...don't hesitate. ;)
I attended one of these wonderful 2-day workshops earlier this year. It was a fab contrast between day 1 in a cosy, fairy light bedecked yurt where Annie and Julia showed great patience in helping me to spin my first ever skein of beautiful soft alpaca yarn, and day 2 in Julia's light and airy studio I the city where I learned to weave. What did I love? The gorgeous Burnt Fen alpacas, the excellent lunches, the skilled tutoring, the great company, the lovely settings, my finished product, having the time and space to enjoy two days of creativity and learning a new skill. What didn't I love? Nothing, except having to go back to the day job afterwards. I enjoyed it so much my husband and I are going back to Burnt Fen for another spinning session later this year!
